William B. Hibbs

William B. Hibbs, 93, passed away Thursday, July 16, 2015 at Norwalk Nursing and Rehab.

William was born December 1, 1921 in Mitchellville, Iowa to Benjamin “Ben” H. and Marian (Porter) Hibbs. He has lived most of his life in the Des Moines area. He worked for the city of Des Moines until his retirement in 1984 and was a 55 year member of the Local Union 353. He and his wife, Neola were members of the Pioneers Square Dancing Club and were known affectionately as Grandma and Grandpa. They enjoyed being “snowbirds” and wintered in Yuma, Arizona. There wasn’t anything that William couldn’t fix. He never met a stranger and was always willing to lend a helping hand.

He is survived by his son, James Hibbs; granddaughters, Lorrie (Kelly) Fortune, Vickie (Steve) Lynch, and Jamie Hibbs; six great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; and his loyal companion, Tweety. He was preceded in death by his wife, Neola B. (Herndon) Hibbs; daughter-in-law, Edith Hibbs; great-great-granddaughter, Samara; and his siblings, Esteleen Baldwin, Naomi Hardersen and Lester Hibbs.

Visitation will begin at 11:00 a.m., with funeral service at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, July 21, 2015, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. Interment will follow at Mitchellville Cemetery.
