Troy L. Jennings

Troy Lee Jennings, 81, passed away peacefully at Mercy Hospice in Johnston on Thursday, July 16, 2015.
Troy was born August 24, 1933, in Des Moines, Iowa to Ernst and Georgia (Brown) Jennings. He graduated from Altoona High School and attended Iowa State University. He served his country in the Army during the Korean War and worked for Western International as an installer for 38 years. Troy was a member of Altoona Masonic Lodge #407 and a fifty year member of the Za Ga Zig Shrine where he was a Za Ga Zig Children’s Hospital Dad, traveling over 47,000 miles to transport sick children to the Shriners Hospital. He loved helping children through the Shrine and was known around his neighborhood as a helper and a handyman. Troy was honored to be chosen to be a participant on the Freedom Honor Flight this past September and viewed it as one of the highlights of his life.
Troy is survived by his wife of 60 years, Jan “Nanny” Jennings; son, Michael (Jacqulin) Jennings; grandsons, Derrick (Lisa) Teska and Robin Jennings; great-grandchildren, Tyler, Mariah, and Kiley; sister, Lorene Dishman; and a host of extended family and special friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter, Gina, and brother, Floyd Jennings.
Visitation will be held from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m., with a Masonic and Christian service at 2:30 p.m., Monday, July 20, 2015, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines, with burial at Oakwood Cemetery, Pleasant Hill.
Memorial contributions may be directed to Shriners Hospitals for Children – Twin Cities, 2025 E River Pkwy, Minneapolis, MN 55414.

Sorry to hear of your loss of Troy. I remember your family from Shadyview. You lived across the street from us in the early 60's. My Mom & Dad were Ray & Florence Clemenson. As a child, I remember you as such a cute family. Thinking of you and sending prayers

Jan, Pat and all the rest of your family please accept our condolences on your loss of Troy! We did not know he was ailing or we would have gone to see him. The three musketeers Troy Ed And Ray are now together again. God Speed to all. Love to all.

Sorry to hear of Poppy's passing! I am unable to attend his services, but will be thinking of you! He is no longer in pain & will live forever in your heart & in memories. God has called a Wonderful Man to his home; he is now an Angel to watch over all of those he loves. May God support & comfort Nanny & her family & all of their friends during these days ahead! Amen

So sorry to hear about poppy, he was a great man. Glad to of had him as a friend and as a neighbor for all these years. He was a dear friend to my dad as well and that means alot to me too. He will be missed greatly. If you need anything Nanny please let us know. We are here for you with dog therapy or just talking therapy. Anything don't hesitate as big or small as it may be.
