Velma J. Price, 87, passed away Saturday, July 11, 2015 at University Park Nursing and Rehab Center. Velma was born December 4, 1927 in Newton, Iowa to Elmer and June (Ellensworth) Sparks.
She enjoyed collecting things, especially jewelry and broaches. Velma is survived by her sister, Norma Crouch; nephew, Eric Crouch (husband, David Sharp); and niece, Marcene “Marcy” Daniel (husband, Ken Bennett). She was preceded in death by her husband, Dean Price.
Visitation will be held from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m., with funeral service at 11:00 a.m., Friday, July 17, 2015 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. Interment will follow at Laurel Hill Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the Activity Department at University Park Care Center in Velma’s memory.

Norma and family: My thoughts and prayers are with you at this time of sorrow. Velma was such a good friend and neighbor for so many years when she lived in her home on Jackson Ave. She visited with my mother, Clara Matney, regularly and they enjoyed their shopping trips so much. She is missed.

I want to send my condolences to the Price family. I am a volunteer at the University Park home and I come on Saturday mornings for "The Horseracing" game. Velma has been an avid attendee, with her sister, Norma. I enjoyed knowing Velma and will miss her very much. She always had her favorite place to sit at the end of the table with Norma and her horse was always number 3. My prayers are with all of you for your loss.
