Steven Andrew Van Hove
July 08, 2015
Steven Van Hove will not be answering his cell phone, nor returning your texts or emails promptly, just like any other day. He will not be playing golf today...well because he hated golf. On Wednesday, July 8, 2015, Steven gave that smirk and sneaky little smile one last time, and succumbed to a very heroic, and very private 3 year battle with stage 4 cancer. If you did not know of Steven's struggles you are not alone. Only a few good friends, who would not treat him any differently, were ever told.
Steven learned his privacy, dignity, and work ethic from his late great father Ted Van Hove. He learned his compassion and world class cooking skills from the best cook in Winnebago County, his late mother Helen Van Hove. Steven was a proud and distinguished architect at Life Care Services Development for 17 years. LCS was a family to him. He is also survived by his sisters, Ruth Ann Rosenwinkel and husband Drake, Laura Van Hove and husband James; nieces, Hannah and Mara Rosenwinkel; and a host of cousins, aunts, and uncles.
Steven is now free to go to the gun range every single day, cook some gourmet meals, and end the night with the "Lone Grey Wolf" kicking some kids butts in Call of Duty.
Visitation will be held Monday, July 13, 2015 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway in West Des Moines with graveside services Tuesday, July 14 at 11:00 a.m. at Good Hope Lutheran Church Cemetery, 2112 330th St. in Titonka, IA.
Memorial contributions may be directed to any cancer organization of your choice. Condolences to the family can be expressed online at www.HamiltonsFuneralHome.com.

The good, they die young. Much too young. Steve was one of my best friends in elementary and high school. Had my first glass of warm milk straight from the cow at Steve's farm out in Leland. I didn't like it much. The best smile and laugh ever. A sad day for the Class of 78. My thoughts are with all of you who called Steve a friend or family member.

The things that come to mind most quickly with Steve were his smile and genuine laughter. Very much an individual following his own path and ideals he was a great classmate and friend. RIP Steve

We were so surprised to learn of Steve's passing. Have memories of him as a kid on the farm and how proud Ted and Helen were of his success as an architect. Our sympathy to you, Ruth Ann and Laura Jean.

I had the pleasure of backpacking with Steve in the Big Horn mountains, canoeing in the Boundary waters, and two Canadian fishing trips. We shared fishing boats, canoes, tents, and a fine whiskey every now and then. I was honored and privileged to work with Steve at LCS. A good man.

Steve will be greatly missed. He was always there to help, whether it was home repair (he knew how to fix anything) or using his big snow remover to help with the huge drifts. Our hearts go out to the family.

Steve had a significant impact on the retirement communities Life Care Services worked with him to design, build, market and fill. He always listened and always had a positive attitude toward suggestions (even though he didn't take all those we sent his way!) At Life Care Services Steve was respected and admired for the work he did with us and by the residents who live in the communities he helped design. His influence will be lasting at Trillium Woods in MN, Timber Ridge in WA and Sagewood in AZ. We will miss him and are proud of his work as we know his family is also.

This is heartbreaking news for myself and my family. Steve was an important part of my life for years. Steve was a very private person and I can respect that about him. He was a very good man and will always have a huge chunk of my heart. My sympathy goes out to Ruth Ann, Laura and family. Please email me for anything!!
