Service Details

Ernest “Pete” Peterson, 93, passed away Thursday, October 11, 2007 at Luther Park. A memorial service will be held 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 17, 2007 at Union Park United Methodist Church, 2305 E. 12th Street.
Ernest was born September 11, 1914 in Des Moines, Iowa to Emil and Anna Sophia (Krokstrom) Peterson. In 1933 he graduated from East High School. In 1940, he married Blanche (Mikesell) Peterson. This union was blessed with two children, Jane Ann and Keith. Ernest was a navy veteran of World War II aboard the USS Marblehead from 1943-1945. After returning from World War II he worked at Anderson Erickson Dairy as a route carrier and supervisor. He was a member of Union Park United Methodist Church for over 75 years. He was also a founding member of the American Scandinavian Foundation, Des Moines Associates. He was very active in the Friendship Force and East High Alumni.
Preceding him in death were his wife, parents, brothers; Bert, Oskar, Evald, Axel and sister Elsie Duffy.
Ernest is survived by his children, Jane Ann Peterson Wedman of Des Moines and Keith Peterson of South Whitley, Indiana, two grandchildren; Erin (Joel) Schiltz of Des Moines and Jay Wedman of Houston, Texas, two great grandchildren; Kirklin and Kinkade Schiltz, sisters; Edna Johnson, Evelyn (Lester) Dark and Dorothy Clark and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Memorial may be given to Union Park United Methodist Church.
The care of Ernest’s body has been donated to The University of Iowa. Arrangements are being handled by Hamilton’s Funeral Home.
