John Arthur Scigliano
July 05, 2015
John Arthur Scigliano, 71, loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle died on Sunday, July 5th at Mercy Hospital after a hard fought, but short 3-month battle with liver cancer. He was born January 16, 1944, in Des Moines, to Albert and Jennie Scigliano.
John grew up on the Southside of Des Moines and lived there most of his life. As a young man, John worked in the restaurant business at his Uncle Riccelli’s restaurant among many other restaurants. He was self-employed throughout his older years and enjoyed buying and selling cars as a hobby and as a small business. He enjoyed the simple things in life like spending time with his grandkids whenever possible, going to parks, or mowing the lawn. John also enjoyed this past year having bible study with his good friends Sam & Gary.
John is survived by his wife of 44 years, Jean Ann (Bellis), his daughter Sonja Scigliano, his son John Scigliano, Jr., his daughter, Alyssa Coe (fiancé Doug Kolpek), sister Lucille Scigliano, brother Arthur Scigliano, grandchildren Kassi (Tom) Mrazek, Gauge Sletten, Brittani Coe, and Tyler Coe. He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert & Jennie Scigliano, brother Joe Scigliano, sister Betty Curtis, toddler sister Lucille Scigliano, and infant twin grandchildren Anthony & Stephanie.
The family is thankful that John’s corneas have been donated to the Iowa Lions Eye Bank in hopes he can help one or more families’ loved ones to see. We are also thankful to Jill & Sarah from Mercy Home Care.
Services will be held at 12:00 p.m. Thursday, July 9, 2015, at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue in Des Moines, with burial to follow at Pine Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held Wednesday evening from 5 – 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the family.
