Roxy Wayne Wilson
July 01, 2015
Roxy Wayne Wilson, 70, passed away July 1, 2015. Visitation will be held Monday evening, July 6, 2015 from 5 to 8 p.m. at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway in West Des Moines, and the funeral on Tuesday, July 7 at 11:00 a.m. at Lutheran Church of Hope, 925 Jordan Creek Parkway in West Des Moines, IA.
Roxy was born in 1944 to Georgine and Raymond Wilson and grew up on a farm near Webster City. After graduating from high school and Webster City Junior College, now Iowa Central Community College, he served his country in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War. He then attended Buena Vista College. In 1970 he married Linda Doolittle. They had two daughters and moved to Des Moines in 1974. Roxy worked in the insurance industry for 40 years.
Roxy was a lifelong Iowa Hawkeye fan. He loved attending games at Kinnick Stadium, but more importantly, he loved watching games with family huddled around a TV. He also had a passion for auto racing and never missed a week of the Knoxville Nationals. Roxy loved to read and was an avid collector of racing memorabilia. In May, he took a dream trip with his daughters Lori and Wendy to the Indianapolis 500, a special 70th birthday gift.
Roxy also loved Corvettes and was the proud owner of a classic 82 and new 2014 Stingray. He is also the president of the Warren County Corvette Club. After the passing of his wife Linda in 2010, he became involved with LADOS (Life After Death of Spouse), and became a mentor and speaker to other LADOS members in need of support.
Through LADOS, he met his special friend Janet Tyne. Over the next 4 plus years, they enjoyed each other’s companionship while traveling and spending time with their families and friends.
Roxy was a man of faith, loving husband, father, and was a loving “Papa” to his two granddaughters Talia and Gigi.
He will be greatly missed by his loving family, daughters, Wendy Wilson (Dave Rice)and Lori (Nick) Lavorato; granddaughters, Talia (9) and Giana (7) Lavorato; his brother, Randy (B.J.) Wilson of Webster City; sisters-in-law, Dianna (Gary) Anderson and Mary Kay (Randy) Kent; his special friend Janet Tyne; and many extended family and friends. Roxy was preceded in death by his parents; and wife, Linda Wilson.

I met Roxy at LADOS 5 years ago. He was a kind and gentle man with a nice smile who was a dedicated friend, father, and grandpa. I'll miss seeing you pull in Janet's drive picking her up in your sparkling corvette. You are one class act. My sincere sympathies to his family, Janet Tyne and friends.

A message to Roxy's Family and loved ones..
My Name is Joe Anderson.. I worked with Roxy during the last few years that he was at Guide One..
He was an amazingly funny and wonderful man... during our conversations about things outside of work he spoke of you all often.. He was very proud of his children and professed often his love of Linda (and the Hawkeyes and Corvettes).. When he and I last talked a few years back he filled me in on life after work and was excited to tell me about meeting Janet.. and outings to Corvette clubs that they were taking... We all meet people in out lives who stick with us in our hearts well after the daily contact is done... Roxy is and always will be one of those people for me.. And I know he will be the same for so many that were lucky enough to have known him and had him touch our lives...

Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone who loved Roxy so much. He will truly be missed by all his family, near and extended. He was a treasure of a man and such a good father and "Papa" to Talia and Gigi. We will surely miss him at all family gatherings but mostly we will remember all the family times we spent with him. Rest assured that he is at peace now i n a better place. We feel very blessed to have known this wonderful man and will always be grateful for the wonderful way he treated Nick. God bless all of you.
