Thomas P. Fay, 81, passed away unexpectedly from a stroke on June 26, 2015. Visitation will be held Wednesday, July 1, 2015 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway in West Des Moines with private burial at Resthaven Cemetery in West Des Moines on Thursday, July 2 at 10:00 a.m.
Thomas was born July 19, 1933 in Dubuque, IA to Margeret and Carl Fay. He graduated from Loras Academy and then attended Dartmouth and served in the National Guard for a time. Thomas worked in the telecommunications area all of his career, including Northwestern Bell and then AT&T from which he retired in 1989. He enjoyed Notre Dame football and critiquing the Hawkeyes. Thomas was a great handyman and was always ready to lend a hand to anyone who needed his assistance.
He is survived by his children, Mike Fay, Patti (Phil) Young, and Nancy (Bob) Betz; grandchildren, Chase (Andrea) Young, Amy (Scott) Pohlson, and Jennifer (Christian) Howell; great-grandchildren, Harrison Young, Olivia Pohlson, Elise Young, Liam Howell, and Will Pohlson; and his brother, John Fay. Thomas was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife, Phyllis.

Tom was just an outstanding man. He was the best example of a gentleman anyone could name. I so admired his years of taking care of Phyllis and his love and devotion to his family, even to caring for the dogs! What a legacy he left. He will be sorely missed. Our prayers and love to all of you in his family.

We are greatly saddened over the news of Tom's passing. He was a dear friend and we will miss him very much. We have so many fond memories of him and Phyllis in Arizona. Our yearly reunions in Hinckley Mn will not be the same without him. Our deepest condolences to his family.

Tom was one of the best men I've ever known. He helped me with handy man projects and was always so kind. Tom will be missed. I'm sorry for his family's loss.
