Ronald M. Livingston
June 26, 2015
Ron Livingston, 80, went home to heaven on June 26, 2015. He was born December 2, 1934, in Rockford, Iowa. He moved to Des Moines as a child and attended Woodside Elementary School, then Warren Harding Middle School. He attended Tech High School, specializing in Automotive and Diesel. Cars were his life from his teen years to working at Friedman Motors, where he was service manager the last 10 years. Then he started Ron’s Auto Repair, where he ran a very successful, customer-oriented repair service for 20 years. On November 10, 1994, Ron was struck by a car as he crossed the street and suffered a traumatic brain injury. He made a satisfactory recovery until Alzheimer’s symptoms began several years later. Ron suffered a stroke in July 2009 and has been in a care center since.
Ron was a member of Westchester Evangelical Free Church, where he sang in the choir; also two Antique Car Clubs; Gideon’s International; and business and automotive organizations. He was everyone’s friend and willing and able to do whatever needed to be done.
He is survived by his loving wife of nearly 35 years, Carol; daughters Pam Livingston (Dennis Boulland), Paula Farrell (Jack), Penny Kramme (Drexel); son Raymond Livingston (Lisa); stepdaughters Alice Baldwin (Greg), Beth Webb (Jerry), stepson Eric Schallert (Chanin); 16 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren; and sisters Ruby Wheatly (Jack), Shirley Frost and Edith Coburn (Bob).
Visitation will be Sunday, June 28, 2015, from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m., at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Ave., Des Moines. Memorial services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, June 29, 2015, at Westchester Evangelical Free Church, 4919 Aurora Ave., Des Moines. A private burial will be held at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hidden Acres Christian Center, 3837 Union Ave., Dayton, Iowa 50530.

Dear Carol and Family: Please accept our sincere condolences. We knew Ron mostly as our trusty mechanic, but also considered him a friend. You are in our thoughts and prayers.

I am so sorry to hear about Mr. Livingston. I did not know he was a car guy but that probably explains why Paula was the first in our class to have a car. It was the coolest car, it had push buttons for the gears.
Take comfort from the rest of your family, that is a good way to get through this trying time.

So many good memories of Ron and the exciting time when we hooked up in Copenhagen. Also, the many choir years together... I remember how "excited" he was when I played the chimes on the organ, NOW he is in God's Choir, and am sure the bells and chimes are ringing for his home going!
May God bless the memories and you too Carol for your faithfullness.

Comfort and God's peace for you Carol and for your family. My thoughts and prayers are that God will surround you with the good memories that you and Ron had of riding motorcycles, old cars, working together, and a love for one another that exceeds the committment of most these days. Ron is blessed to be with the Lord now and that brings a joy beyond belief. The Lord welcomed Ron into His presense for he was truly a good and faithful servant. Love you so much dear Carol.

I will miss you Dad. I'm replaying so many memories in my head. When you had you head injury and we all took turns hanging out with you at the Lutheran Hospital rehab. You kept trying to introduce me as your oldest daughter to each nurse that came into your room.Even with your traumatic brain injury I was trying to retrain you to say I was the 'first born'. Then there is the time you appeared at Saydel High School, and I thought you were there to pick up a customer car. Little did I know you had taken time off of work to attend the honors ceremony, and surprised me, to be present as a Senior I was inducted into National Honor Society.
