Nimrod Deering
June 19, 2015
Nimrod John Deering, 88, passed away on Saturday, June 20, 2015 at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa. Nimrod was born on February 27, 1927 in Lovilia, Iowa to Handy and Mamie (Simmons) Deering.
Nimrod is survived by his siblings, Joy Williams, Andrew (Ernestine) Deering and Helen Hooper as well as a host of loving nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings Howard, Loren, Ruby and Frank Deering, Agnes Jackson and Mary Frances Deering; and a daughter Sandra Gail Deering.
Family and friends referred to him as uncle Nim. Nimrod loved to dine at Village Inn and Red Lobster, where some staff fondly nicknamed him Rodney, and treated him like royalty! Nimrod had a wonderful effect on others that pulled forth their warmth, generosity, affection and love. Perhaps, because Nimrod spiritually knew how to live. He didn't just like to talk about the things he loved doing he did them with passion and purpose. And if you wanted to go along for the ride he would've gladly taken you with him. Nimrod thrived on hard work, hunting, fishing, bowling, and billiards. Nimrod was a retired machinist at John Deere. A proud veteran who served his country in World War II. Nimrod was a man of God who loved his family dearly.
Funeral services will be held at 11 AM on Friday, June 26, 2015 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon St., Des Moines, IA. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 PM Thursday, also at Hamilton’s, with burial at Glendale Cemetery.

Mr. Nimrod was always a delight when he visited. Listening to Mr. Nimrod and his brother, Andrew scrap talking or laughing is memorable. Andrew would be telling Nimrod a story or of an event Nimrod - ah shoot, you dont know what youre talking about! Andy - no, its true, it did happen Ill show you! Years ago it would be Howard, Nimrod and Andrew in deep conversation or scrap talk guaranteed to have you laughing until you cried. MemoriesYou will be missed Mr. Nimrod.
