Elaine Lois Norman was born October 11, 1933 in Des Moines, Iowa to Milford and Irene Dacken. She has lived in the Des Moines area for most of her life. Elaine worked for Banker’s Trust for 19 years and the City of Des Moines Parks and Recreation Department for five years. She enjoyed cooking, counted cross-stitch, and spending time with her family and friends. She was a member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church where she enjoyed singing in the choir.

Elaine passed away peacefully Thursday, June 18, 2015 at her home surrounded by her family. She is survived by her children, Robert J. Brooks (Cheryl Kern) and Julie A. Brooks (Tim Vogt); step-children, Cynthia (Buster) Krebs and Steven (Michelle) Norman; brother, Larry (Dixie) Hutzel; grandson, Matthew J. Brooks; four step-grandchildren; great-grandchildren, Carter, Madison, and Mason; and six step-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Sandra Wright; first husband, Robert K. Brooks, Jr.; and her second husband, “Gene” Norman.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 24, 2015 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. Funeral services will begin at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, June 25, 2015 at Aldersgate United Methodist Church, 3600 75th Street, Urbandale with burial at Altoona Cemetery.
