James F. Stottlemyer

James Stottlemyer, 79, passed away June 17, 2015 at Bright Kavanagh House. Services will be held at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway in West Des Moines, with visitation on Tuesday evening June 23 from 6 to 8 p.m. and the funeral service on Wednesday, June 24 at 10:00 a.m. Burial will be at Waukee Cemetery.
Jim was born on August 15, 1935 in Des Moines and grew up in Van Wert, IA. After graduation from Van Wert High School in 1953, Jim joined the military and was a sea-going, honored Marine in charge of the brig aboard an aircraft carrier. He married Bonnie Lee Ahrens on April 13, 1958 in Blue Earth, MN and they celebrated nearly 54 years together until her death in 2012. Jim worked for the Veterans Administration in the Engineering Department until his retirement in 1991. Besides being a licensed Electrician, Jim also enjoyed farming in his spare time.
He is survived by his children, Robyn (John Swyers) Stottlemyer of West Des Moines, IA and J.P. Stottlemyer of Osceola, IA; granddaughter, Shelby Heath of Adel, IA; sisters, Grace (Rick) Byrd, Carol (Duane) Fulton and Bonnie Boothroyd; and many nieces and nephews.
Jim was preceded in death by his loving wife, Bonnie; mother, Floy Fillman- Cross; and brother, Jerry Fillman.

Tay and I are so sad about Jim's passing. Many fond memories with Jim and Bonnie and a LOT of laughter! Prayers to Robyn and JP as I know the loss of your Dad is painful.....
