Elizabeth Michelle O'Connor
June 13, 2015
Elizabeth Michelle O’Connor, 60, died suddenly and unexpectedly on June 13 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines from complications of cancer—only three weeks after her initial diagnosis.
Elizabeth and Diana, her partner of 19 years, had just moved into a new home in Altoona after moving from Indiana to be closer to their family.
Elizabeth, also called Grandma EMO, LOVED her grandchildren and others' kids and grandchildren as much as her own. She was a mother to many and an enemy to few. She loved beautiful flowers, anything pink, watching NASCAR races with the love of her life and staying up-to-date with her friends.
The cancer diagnosis was hard to swallow, but doctors had a plan and everyone was on board. But cancer stories don’t often have happy endings and this one was no different.
Diana would never ask for help. But we know there are many who would love to lend their support in this very sad time. Contributions will be used to offset the costs of her cremation services and medical expenses. Donations can be made to the Elizabeth O’Connor Memorial Fund at any Wells Fargo location or online at http://gofund.me/wzzmc4. Elizabeth did not have life insurance or another financial estate.
Not everyone can afford a donation; and that's okay! Say a little something sweet the next time you see a pink rose. Elizabeth would love to hear.
Elizabeth is survived by her loving partner, Diana; daughters, Heather (Matt) Julich of Ames and Meghan (Jay) Pratt of Knoxville; son, Joshua Ray of Des Moines; grandchildren, Aidan, Ambrose, Amari and Avalyse Julich and Adley Sue Pratt; brothers, Larry and Tom Summers; and sister, Julie Schliefert.
There will be a Celebration of Life at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 28, 2015 at Hamilton’s Altoona Funeral Home, 105 4th Street SW, Altoona. Family will greet friends from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

The miles may keep us apart, but you are close in our hearts. We will surely miss our one week together each spring at Bristol but those good times will never be forgotten.
A rose is a rose-especially a pink one for you Lizzy Bear.
