Darrell Stickel

Darrell DeWayne Stickel age 72 of Des Moines, IA passed away on Saturday June 13, 2015. He was born on November 17, 1942 in Davenport, IA.
At the age of 17 he enlisted in the US Air Force until the age of 21 then remained active in the Air Force reserves until he retired in October 1993. Darrell worked for Dewey Ford for 35 years and even after retirement delivered cars as recent as last week.
Darrell enjoyed fishing, traveling, Prairie Meadows, and most of all, time with his family, especially the grandchildren.
Survivors include his loving companion Nancy Moore and beloved cat, Frisky; son, Daniel Stickel; twin daughters, Kimberly (Rex) Nicodemus and Krislyn Christianson; along with Nancy’s children, Betty (Pat) Howell, Tina (Bruce) Amos and and Lisa (Tim) Croushorn; grandchildren, Jacob Galloway, Robert Applegate, Matthew Brubaker, Colton (Ann) Christianson, Brianna Christianson, TJ (Tonya) Amos, Cody (Mandi) Amos, Josh Amos, Trevor Amos, Alaina (Andrew) Ellis, Aspen Croushorn, Jordan Howell and Taylor Howell; great grandchildren, Lilly Applegate, Layla Applegate, Lydia Applegate, Denali Amos, Emerlee Amos, Katelyn Amos, Colten Amos and Chase Ellis; and his brothers Greg (Nancy) Stickel and Rick (Deb) Stickel.
Darrell was preceded in death by his father and mother, Richard and Fern Stickel and his sister, Sandra Heston.
Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, June 16, 2015 at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street, Des Moines, IA 50315. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 17th, at the funeral home. Officiating will done by Pastor Dan Bunge of Emmanuel Baptist Church, Des Moines, IA. Interment will follow at 12:30 p.m. at Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Adel, IA.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Animal Rescue League of Iowa or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

my deepest sympathy to Darrell's family and friend. Darrell will be in my memory's forever. He was a dear friend for 40+ years and whenever I needed someone to call or visit in my times off need Darrell was always there for me.

We are so sorry for your loss. Your family will be in our prayers. I worked at the Iowa ANG with Darrell for many year's and my husband worked with Darrell at Dewey's many years ago. Darrell was a great guy and always seemed to keep things in perspective. May God help your family heal.
