Brian Allen Blackiston

Brian Blackiston, 39, passed away Thursday, June 11, 2015 at Mercy Medical Center.
Brian was born December 5, 1975 in Portsmouth, Virginia to Kim Blackiston and Linda Thrasher. Brian’s heart was always drawn to the ocean. He would spend his time surfing and fishing, anything to do with the water. In 2008 Brian moved from his home in Hawaii to Iowa to be with family, but his love for Hawaii never left him.
Brian was in incredibly talented craftsmen. He used his talents with woodworking and was employed at Fine Lines Wood Works.
Brian is survived by his mother, Linda (Gregory) Moore; father, Kim (Nancy) Blackison; sister, Dawn (George) Lugo; brother, Christopher (Katie) Blackiston; stepbrother, Jeremy (Stephanie) Moore; step-sister, Amber (Scott) Tollefson, nephews and nieces, Nicolas and Zacary Lugo, Xzavier and Izabelle Moore; aunts Kelly Blackiston, Pam (Danny) Bender, and Sue (Ron) Senkle; and grandmother, Joan Taylor.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents.
A celebration of life will be held from 2:00 - 4:00pm Saturday, June 20 2015 Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street.

Brain worked for us for several years in Hawaii. We were just wondering how he was doing as we havent heard from him and upon my research I found this obituary. We are so sad as we felt Brian was was such a great guy. RIP Brian.

My favorite memories of Brian will be fishing down at Sun Valley lake in the Summer and walking on the iced over lake in the Winter.
Rocky the squirrel, and video games nights with my husband.
Him saying "bra" all the time.
RIP Brian, the Hawaiian.

I am really going to miss Brian. He is a great friend and someone I always respected. He has great skills and also very intelligent. He will always be my friend and I will always be his.
