Charlotte LaForge
June 09, 2015
Charlotte Birdsall LaForge, 75, passed on Tuesday, June 9, 2015 at Mercy Medical Center. She was born in Des Moines, Iowa on September 16, 1939 to Kenneth and Nadine (Hendrickson) Birdsall.
Charlotte was a strong and determined woman from the start. She dropped out of high school to help support her family but earned her GED in 1977 while working at USF&G where she eventually became an Underwriter. In 1982 she remarried and for a time stayed home to care for her children. But Charlotte was accustomed to caring for herself and her children, so she worked for the Regis Company part-time in the evenings and later became a flight attendant for Access Airlines in 1999.
Charlotte was an avid Iowa State fan due to their wonderful veterinarian program but was a fan of all teams as long as they were not playing against Iowa State. Most of all, Charlotte loved spending time with her granddaughters. Having them over to spend the night, shopping with them, and just being together. She also had a fondness for animals, in particular dogs and horses. Even working at Prairie Meadows for a time to be close to the horses.
This incredibly strong, independent, loving and giving woman will be greatly missed by her daughters, Andrea (Jeff Wood) LaForge and Jacquelyn (Jerad) Huber; granddaughters, Elizabeth Charlotte and Elin Renee Huber; the father of her children, Gene LaForge, Jr.; numerous nieces and nephews; and her beloved dogs, Snoop Dogg and Dizzle. Charlotte was preceded in death by her parents; and sister, Edith Soroka.
Memorials may be directed to the family in honor of Charlotte. Condolences may be expressed online at www.HamiltonsFuneralHome.com
A celebration of Charlotte’s life will be held on Friday, June 26, 2015 from 5 to 8 p.m. at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway in West Des Moines, IA.

Hey. I just wanted Nana to have a great life with all of us. Most of all, she loved doing things with me and my sister.I love her still and she loves me. I hope she is watching over me and I'm sure she is watching you. I miss her a lot, and I hope you do too. I know I will see her again one day.

Charlotte helped raise me from elementary school to the time I started high school. She was so good to my children and I always felt like one of the family. My heart is breaking for Andrea and Jacque but I know that Charlotte's strength and wit lives on in her girls and grand daughters.

We were good friends for many years as kids and later in life. We lost track of each other and I am so sorry to hear of her passing. I wish we could have reconnected. She was a good friend for many years. My prayers and thoughts are with her family.

I am so sorry to hear about my friend's passing. We made our First Communion and Confirmation at Our Lady of Guadalupe Chapel together many years ago. She was so much fun.
Prayers to all of her family.

I have more memories than I can even talk about. Andrea was my best friend from pre-school on! You were my other mother that whole time. I know we gave you so much grief and I can probably account for 1 or 2 of those grey hairs! Andrea and I lost contact over the years, but recently reconnected. I wish I could have said hello one last time. You will be missed.

Aunt Charlotte you are already deeply missed. I miss are talks on the phone and hearing you say I Love you. You always had a great smile and always knew how to have a lot of fun. I have so many memories of the things we did together and the time spent. And for helping me put on my Wedding. And like you said you would of let that priest have it. For not marrying Denny and I. Love and miss you much.

Sporty car, high in fashion always gave her family lots of passion.Loved antiques and remembering the past.Looking back at the years knew they had gone by fast. Her loving spirit and great big bear hugs. Will not forget when she thought her house was full of bugs.Iowa state fan all the way.She always enjoyed watching them as they play.Loved her dogs they made her happy.Even though at times things were crappy.Phone conversations would always end with "I love you".Dear Aunt Charlotte we miss you we do.
