Linda Jean (Goldsberry) Vander Schel was born March 26, 1947 in Des Moines, the third child of Hugh and Ruth Goldsberry. She passed away Saturday, February 21, 2015 at her winter home in Sun City, AZ at the age of 67. A memorial service will be held on Friday, June 26, at 1 p.m. at Saylorville Church in Des Moines. Hamilton’s Funeral Home is assisting with arrangements. Inurnment will follow the services at Waveland Cemetery in Prairie City.

Linda graduated from Southeast Polk High School in 1965, having been active in church youth fellowship, choral groups and cheerleading. In June of that same year she married the love of her life, Kendell. To this union three children would be born. They made a home in Altoona in 1968, where Kendell resides to this day. Kendell and Linda were married 49 years, and the date of her memorial service would have been their 50th wedding anniversary.

Linda worked outside the home as a receptionist and later office manager for various transportation companies before retiring. Linda was a beloved member of the Phi Tau Omega philanthropic sorority, Omega Nu Chapter for more than 20 years and held many offices and positions in the organization. She counted her sorority sisters among her dearest friends. She also faithfully volunteered for the Blue Ribbon Foundation at the Iowa State Fair. In her spare time Linda enjoyed bowling, having been on teams with family and friends for at least 30 years, and loved being with her grandchildren.

Linda is survived by her husband, Kendell Vander Schel, Sr.; daughter, Traci (Brad) Buck; sons, Kendell (Lisa Lillegard) Vander Schel, Jr., and Jason Vander Schel; sibings, Joyce Carr and Don (Peggy) Goldsberry; grandchildren, Brielle, Zeke, Grace, Jack, Samson, and Lucie Buck, Kennedy Vander Schel, and Brooklin Jensen; siblings in-law, Lola (Jerry) Tschetter, David (Debbie) Vander Schel, Joyce Day, Kevin (Sharon) Vander Schel, and Kris (Roger) Woodward; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, parents in-law, and brother in-law Leonard.
