John Jaquinta was born September 12, 1912, and passed away June 4, 2015 at the age of 102 and 9 months. He was married to Carmella Raymond February 25, 1940. They had two children, James and Mary. John was a barber in the 1930s, then a grocer for 40 years. He owned several stores during that time, the main one being Jaquinta’s Groceries at 418 East 6th in Des Moines, until he retired in 1975.

John was one of Jehovah’s Witnesses, baptized in 1950, and remained active in the door to door ministry through age 101. He was very serious about his religion and served as an Elder with the Highland Park Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses.

John was preceded in death by his parents, James and Mary Jaquinta, brothers, Frank and Joe, sisters, Catherine Russo and Rose Jaquinta, and his loving wife of 69 years, Carmella.

He is survived by his son, James (Linda) Jaquinta and daughter, Mary Jaquinta, both of Des Moines, two grandchildren, Anthony (Ronna) Jaquinta and Dawn (Michael) Velez, four great grandsons, Dane and Ty Jaquinta and Nicholas and Drew Velez, brother, Sam Jaquinta, sister, Teresa Pardekooper, and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, June 13, 2015 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines.
