Dorothy (Freel) Murphy

Dorothy Murphy, 84, passed away on Sunday, May 31, 2015, at Taylor House Hospice in Des Moines. She was born November 7, 1930 to James and Ruth Martin in Des Moines.

Dorothy owned Dort’s Beauty Salon in Altoona for many years and loved spending time with her family and friends.

Dorothy is survived by her sons, Randy (Linda) Freel and Mike (Kim) Freel; grandchildren, Jessi (Jason) Englert, Adam Pratt, Madison (Kathryn) Freel, Jenny Freel, Rachel Freel, Andrew Freel, and Lyndi Freel; great-grandchildren, Jack, Reid, Nikolas, and Lilly; sister, Rosie (Virgil) Gaffney; and a host of other family and beloved friends.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Ronald Freel; second husband, Edward Murphy; son, Butch Freel; two brothers; and six sisters.

A memorial service will be held 6 p.m. Thursday, June 4, 2015 at Hamilton’s Altoona Funeral Home, 105 4th Street SW. Family will greet friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. A private burial of cremated remains will occur at Lowman Cemetery at a later date.
