Service Details

Charles E. Taylor, 88, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 29, 2015 at Taylor House Hospice from complications of Alzheimer’s disease. Funeral services will be held at Central Presbyterian Church, 3829 Grand Ave. in Des Moines, IA on Wednesday, June 3, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. with visitation prior from 9 to 11 a.m. at the church. Burial will be at Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Van Meter on Thursday, June, 4, 2015 at 9:30 a.m.

Charles was born on June 4, 1926 in Des Moines, IA to Lucile and Sidney Taylor. He graduated from East High School in 1944, and then enlisted in the U.S. Navy during World War II. After the war he attended Iowa State University, and then joined the family business, Taylor Industries, where he worked until retirement. He was an Elder and choir member at Central Presbyterian Church. Charles was very happy to spend 27 winters in Mesa, AZ at the Arizona Golf Resort where he golfed many days, and summer months at Willow Creek in Des Moines. He and his wife, Joyce enjoyed dancing and socializing together with friends in Arizona and Iowa.

Charles is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Joyce; children, Paulette Taylor, Jane (Dennis) Livingston, Todd (Christi) Taylor, and Tamara (Tim) Papadopoulos; step-daughter, Sue (Paul) Dennis; his 12 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren; brother, Donald (Delores) Taylor; sister, Marilyn Sweeney; and sister-in-law, Shirley Taylor. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Charles “Corky”, Jr.; twin brother, Harold; and brother-in-law, Jim Sweeney.
