Service Details

Dennis Craig Dickey, 62, passed away on Thursday May 14th, 2015 after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born on September 3rd, 1952.

Denny graduated from Tech High School in 1970 and continued on to the Iowa State University studying architectural drafting. He continued his education and later graduated from DMACC receiving his degree in Associates of Science in drafting. After completing college he and his brother John Dickey, went into the automotive repair business and opened their own repair shop named John’s Bug Repair. Over the years he spent his time working at different repair shops until he received a position with Borgen Systems in Des Moines. While there Denny quickly moved up to a supervisor position and made a lot of great friends. He would often tell stories about all the great people he worked with and we would always get a good laugh listening to him talk about them all.

Denny had many hobbies that he loved to be involved with. In high school he was on the swim team and competed at the state tournament in the butterfly style placing very well. When he was younger Denny was an avid skydiver and loved the adrenaline rush that it provided. He had many great stories about his close calls and his “off the mark” landings and would always get you laughing while telling them. He was a great slalom skier and would perfect his skills while wearing his cut-off jean shorts and a beer in hand at Lake Rathbun. He was also involved in radio-controlled car racing for many years but his true love was relaxing at the lake with friends and family. He would spend many days there with his friends and family, parents Chuck and Dorothy Dickey and in later years with his nephew Jeff Dickey and his wife Dawn, just relaxing by a fire and telling great stories.

Denny is survived by his sons Brandon Winn and Trevor Dickey; his sisters Jeannette (Jim) Masear, Pam (Butch) Crabb; mother Dorothy Dickey; nephews Jeff (Dawn) Dickey, Mike (Carrie) Smith, Greg Smith; nieces Tricia (Jeff) Brock, Traci (Kevin) Kadlec, Jeannie (Doug) Staker; Jamie (Brandon) Schroeder, Jodi (Tony) Reed; grandson Jeremy Bash, Brendan Pinneke; granddaughter Aubrie Dickey. Denny was preceded in death by his daughter Janna Bash; brother John Dickey and father Charles Dickey.

The family would like to thank Borgen Systems for their continued support of Denny during his journey.

We would like to invite you all to a reception in Denny’s honor back at Hamilton’s Funeral Home after the grave side services for a luncheon.

FINALLY RETIRED!!
Denny Dickey
