Leland L. Huss, 95, passed away Monday, May 11, 2015 at Taylor House Hospice in Des Moines.

Leland was born June 26, 1919 in Indianola, Iowa to Otto and Alice (Crawford) Huss. He proudly served in the U.S. Army, 34th Infantry Division, from 1941 - 1945. He was employed by Meredith Publishing for 45 years, retiring in 1984. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Des Moines Philatelic Society, Home Masonic Lodge, American Legion, and Mid Iowa Woodcarvers.

Leland married Louise in 1946 and together they raised their daughter, Susan in the Des Moines area. He was a great bowler and bowled every week for 40 years. He attended the State Tournament with his bowling team. Leland was a woodcarver and a lifelong stamp collector. He loved to travel with his wife, Louise and had a pen pal in Sweden for 70 years.

He is survived by his daughter, Susan (Kent) Brown; grandchildren, Brad (Dawn) Brown and Beth (fiancé, Rob) Brown; great-granddaughters, Shaley (Jake), Lindsay, Becca, Brianna, and Marian; step-great-granddaughters, Emma and Megan; great-great-granddaughter, McKenna; as well as many beloved friends.

Leland was preceded in death by his parents, Otto and Alice and wife, Louise.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Thursday, May 14, 2015 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, May 15, also at Hamilton’s, with burial at Masonic Cemetery in Des Moines.
