Earl McKean, 90, passed away Thursday, May 7, 2015 at Fleur Heights Care Center.

Earl was born July 1, 1924 in Kearney, Nebraska to Vernon and Clara McKean. He married Elva Coyle on November 24, 1945 in Papillion, Nebraska. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII. Earl and his wife Elva owned and operated Independent Movers in Gering, Nebraska for 30 years and he also worked as a Quality Control Manager and Trainer for Lint United Van Lines. They moved to Des Moines in 1976 and he retired in 1993. Earl was a member of the Eagles and the Gering Fire Department.

Earl is survived by his daughter, Barbara (Michael) Jesse; grandchildren, Larry (Gina) Jesse, Kristy (Louis) Stoeger and Scott (Angie) Bauer; ten great-grandchildren; and a host of extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Elva McKean; and daughters, Melanie McKean and Beverly Bauer; and his brother, Leonard McKean.

Visitation will be held from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 12, 2015 at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street , with the service to begin at 10 a.m. A graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 13, at Soldier Valley Cemetery in Pisgah, Iowa.
