Roberta Young

Roberta Young, 79, passed away May 4, 2015, at Trinity Center at Luther Park in Des Moines, Iowa. She was born in Swan, Iowa, on August 6, 1935, to Frank and Lula Kouski.

Roberta was a devoted wife and loving mother. She was a member of The Daughters of the American Revolution where she previously served as treasurer. Roberta enjoyed genealogy, shopping with her sisters, and canning. She loved sewing, crocheting and gardening. Roberta was a good cook, everyone knew her macaroni and cheese and she had a great sense of humor. Roberta worked at Kmart until her retirement in 1997.

Roberta is survived by her husband of 58 years, James W. Young; children, Debbie Young, John Young and Carol (John) Turpen; grandchildren, Darren (Evelyn), James and Alexis Young, Bailey and Brady Turpen; great grandchildren, Julian and Noah; sisters, Reta (Butch) Robey, Ruth (Roger) McKeever; sisters-in-law, Ruth Kouski, Marie Rasner, Norma Jean (John) Pfeiffer; brother-in-law, Allen (Ginny) Young; numerous nieces, nephews and other loving family. She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter-in-law, Celia Young; siblings, Raymond, Robert and Roland Kouski.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m., Thursday, May 7, 2015, at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue in Des Moines. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, May 8, also at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Hartford Cemetery.
