Harvey D. Thomas was transported to glory May 2, 2015! Born in Altoona, Iowa to Edward and Edith (Owens) Thomas on December 11, 1915.

Harvey was a World War II Army Veteran, participating in the Battle of Attu, Aleutian Islands, in 1943. Intelligent, kind, caring and an eternal optimist with a great sense of humor, he was an inspiration and blessing to many. His greatest passion in life was serving Christ and playing his violin in churches and nursing homes. He will be deeply missed.

He is survived by long-time friend and companion Ann Grogan, daughters Carol Lester (Augusta, GA) and Bonnie Thomas (St. Paul, MN), son Gordon (Rochester, MN), many grandchildren and great-grandchildren and dear friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, son David, three brothers and two sisters.

Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., with funeral service to begin at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, May 7, 2015 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. Burial will take place at 9:30 a.m. Friday, May 8 at Iowa Veterans Cemetery, Van Meter.
