Paul Villalobos, 81, passed away Saturday, May 2, 2015 at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines.

Paul was born May 18, 1933 in Valley Junction, Iowa to Benjamin and Martina (Domingues) Villalobos. He attended St. Anthony Catholic School and Lincoln High School in Des Moines. He met Frances Salazar-Gallegos at a bowling tournament dance and two years later, in 1987, they were married in Omaha, Nebraska in an outdoor ceremony. They then moved to Des Moines, Iowa.

Paul was in many bowling leagues and was a member of the Mexican-American Bowling Club. He was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church and loved spending time with his family and friends. Paul was a drummer in a band and enjoyed all types of music, but Blues was his favorite. He was a very good dancer and could dance to anything. His family will miss Paul’s dance, “The Freeze.”

He enjoyed gardening and cooking. He liked trying new creative recipes. Paul was a very good friend to so many people and will be greatly miss by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

He is survived by his wife, Frances; son, Marty; daughters, Vicki and Julie (Jeff) Glenn; brothers, Fred (Nellie) and Leo (Kathy); sisters, Gloria (Bill) Burdick and Benita (Richard) Quijano; three grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Frances Ortiz and Mary Louise Valdez; and brothers, Jesse, Raymond, and Tony.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m., with a Rosary service at 6:00 p.m., Thursday, May 7, 2015 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10:00 a.m., Friday, May 8, 2015 at St. Anthony Catholic Church, 15 Indianola Avenue, Des Moines, IA 50315, with interment to follow at Glendale Cemetery.
