Betty Jean Porter

Betty J. Porter, 76, passed away April 28, 2015, at Taylor House Hospice surrounded by family.

Betty was a lifelong resident of Des Moines. She was united in marriage to Rodney Porter on June 17, 1955. Betty enjoyed being with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She also enjoyed the outdoors, gardening with her husband, and being a homemaker.

Betty is survived by her husband of 60 years, Rodney; children, Debbie (Dennis) Hall, Brenda (Scott) Mershon, Lisa (Matt) Martin, and Mark Porter; siblings, Mary Colwell, Sharon Lancaster, and Ronald Griffin; as well as many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, and daughter, Sheryl Porter.

Visitation will be held on Friday, May 1, 2015, from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m., with a memorial service to begin at noon, at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue in Des Moines. Burial will follow at Berwick Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be directed to Taylor House or Norwoodville Baptist Church in loving memory of Betty.
