Service Details

Charles A. Alfman, 77, died on October 3, 2007. Visitation will be held at the Sheridan Park United Methodist Church, from 10am till noon on Saturday, October 6th, with funeral services to follow, beginning at noon at the church.
Chuck was born in Corning, Ohio on September 16, 1930; graduated from Corning HS in 1948; and married his beloved Jeanne in 1951 before shipping out to serve in the Korean War. Upon his honorable discharge from the US Army in 1953 he moved his family to Iowa, where he lived for the rest of his life.
He worked for both Pittsburgh Des Moines Steel and then John Deere, retiring in 1992. Chuck thoroughly enjoyed being retired and actively pursued many hobbies. Fishing was his passion and Gramps lovingly passed on his love of the “nibble” to his beloved grandsons. He also loved to pitch horseshoes and won numerous trophies while competing at the Iowa State Fair, attesting to his skills as a real “ringer!” All would agree that Chuck was an avid Cubs and Hawkeye fan and we’re sure that he will now be cheering them on from heaven.
Chuck was devout in his faith having served as a member of the Sheridan Park UMC wherever needed during these past 49 years. No finer a Christian man could be found as he truly lived his faith, touching countless lives with his generosity and kindness. Although short in stature, Chuck was a giant of a man when measured by his character and compassion for others. His gentle spirit will be sorely missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his daughter Vicki and her husband Mike and grandsons Lucas and Logan Coy of Missouri; brother Lawrence (Beulah) Alfman and sister Louise (Leonard) Dougherty of Ohio; in-laws Dick Burkhart and Gladys Arlt of Iowa and many nieces and nephews. Chuck was preceded in death by his wife Jeanne; two sons, Rick and Paul; grandson Blake Coy and his parents.
Memorial gifts may be made to the Sheridan Park United Methodist Church, 4100 E. Sheridan Ave, DM, IA 50317.
