Rev. Robert Sterling Taber
April 17, 2015
Rev. Robert "Bob" Sterling Taber, 87, resident of Urbandale, IA, was welcomed into Heaven by his Savior, Jesus, on April 17, 2015 at Mercy Hospice in Johnston. Visitation will be at Hamilton's on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway in West Des Moines, IA, on Sunday, May 3, 2015, from 4 to 6 p.m. A memorial service for Bob will be held at First Federated Church, 4801 Franklin Avenue in Des Moines on Monday, May 4, at 10:00 a.m., with burial to follow at 2:00 p.m. at Hubbard Cemetery in his hometown of Hubbard, Iowa.
Bob was born to Sterling "Steve" and Ruth Taber on January 3, 1928, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He grew up in the farming town Hubbard, Iowa where he was born again by faith in Jesus at the age of 17. There he also met Lois Eller who would be his wife for 66 years. The Christian faith of her parents, Rudy and Irene Eller, was a major influence in his life.
Together Bob and Lois moved from Iowa to Oregon so that he could attend Western Evangelical Seminary. Upon graduation he served as a minister first in Marshalltown, IA for 4 years, followed by a pastorate in Davenport, IA for 8 years. He then became a career missionary with One Mission Society, a non-denominational faith mission, establishing a regional office in the U.S. to represent missionary work being done worldwide. During their 50 years with OMS, Bob and Lois ministered in 27 countries. Bob will be remembered for his genuine desire to connect with people and to help them get connected to the love of Jesus.
Bob is survived by his wife, Lois E. Taber, of Urbandale, IA; two sons, Randy (Gwen) Taber of IA and Jeffrey (Karla) Taber of MN; two daughters, Kathy (Tim) Fox of Mexico and Susan (Lee) Cramer of TX; 11 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Steve and Ruth Taber and his sister Jean (Marc) Barnes.
Memorial contributions may be made to One Mission Society for ministries in Russia and India.

Lois, you and Bob were a great blessing to Eleanore and me during our many deputation tours in the midwest region, and on your visits to India. I pray for God's comforting grace for you and your family as you go through this painful time of loss of husband and dad and granddad. And I rejoice with you that Bob is with the Lord "which is better by far" (Phil. 1:23).

Bob, a young pastor of a small town Iowa church and father of four, took a missions trip to Haiti. There God broke his heart with the things that break Gods heart. As a result, he dedicated five decades of his life helping missionaries raise support to take the gospel unto all nations. Thirty-five years ago I was one of those missionaries headed to Taiwan. And, thirty-two years ago he gave me his daughters hand in marriage. I, hundreds of other missionaries, and thousands of believers dotting the globe give thanks to our Lord Jesus for a man whose life counted.

Dear Aunt Lois and family,
I mourn with you and celebrate with you at the same time. Uncle Bob's vibrant personality and zeal for the Lord was always such an example to me as long as I can remember. The fact that both Uncle Bob and Aunt Lois were college classmates of my parents and that they sang together is unique. Having known all of you kids so well over these many years, from OMS MK years, to college, and some of your kids at Asbury has kept us close. I'm sorry for the sadness and loss you are feeling and Pam and I pray for the Lord to comfort you and give you joy in celebrating a life that was lived to glorify the Master.
Love

We wish to express our condolences to the family and to all who love Bob. We will miss his enthusiasm for the work of the Kingdom. He truly was about his Father's business and he kept that vision right to the end. We will be praying for you, Lois, and the family in this time of grieving.
