Hal Michael Bellinghusen, 64, was born November 27, 1950 in Carroll to Joseph and Joyce Bellinghausen. He passed away Wednesday, April 8, 2015.
Hal graduated from Grand Junction High School and served in the Air Force during the Vietnam era. He lived in New York after the service, moving back to Iowa in the late 1990s.
Hal worked 10 years as a para-educator, retiring 2 years ago. Hal was a very active member of his church, Lutheran Church of Hope Ankeny. He enjoyed fishing and watching professional baseball and hockey.
Hal is survived by his wife, Teresa; step-children, Joel (Candace) Robertson, Joshua (Roschelle Johnson) Robertson, Jordan (Jonathan) Hicks, and Jared (Lindsey) Robertson; children, Cory, Kelli and Eric; eight grandchildren; one great-grandchild; brother, Dale; sisters, Shawn Jacobsen, Dawn Halligan and Misti Murphy along with a host of other family and beloved friends. He was preceded in death by his parents.
A Celebration of Life will be held Monday, April 13, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at Lutheran Church of Hope Ankeny, 520 NW 36th Street in Ankeny.
Memorial contributions may be made to Lutheran Church of Hope Ankeny Missions.

Teresa our deepest sympathy, we only knew you both a short while through Hope Lutheran & Alpha classes, but your presence was always noted when we attend church. Thoughts and prayers are with you.

I send my sympathies to Hal's family. I grew up at Paton and knew Hal when he was in my class at Jefferson High School and when we were lifeguards together at the Grand Junction swimming pool. We were notified of Hal's passing by some of our Jefferson classmates. So even though Hal was only in the class for a short time, I hope you know that many people you would never expect are remembering good times with Hal and are thinking of your family. He was nice to all. We had a lot of fun at the swimming pool. I am very sorry for your loss. You are not left alone...God IS with you.

It wasn't long ago I introduced you to my big brother. You swept him off his feet and you fulfilled the last 14 years of his short life with love, and memories that will never be forgotten. Our hearts ache and we are saddened

I worked with Hal for several years at ADM. He was a really good man, and all the kids he contacted liked and respected him. My thoughts are with you, Teresa.

Teresa, I am so sorry for your loss. Hal made bus duty more bearable, and always had a smile or joke to lighten the spirits of those around him. My prayers are with you.

Teresa and family,
The picture you selected shows the Hal I knew, always smiling, making others laugh and encouraging kids. We had many faith conversations while I worked with him at ADM and I am so glad that God and his church and family were such a big part of his life and the life he shared with others. So sorry about your loss. I had him for a study hall teacher and he was awesome. He made highschool fun for me. He helped a lot of kids who needed help and he loved all the kids there at ADM highschool. My prayers with you all.

So sorry to hear about Hal. Skylar really enjoyed having him in class...always said he was a wealth of information and loved to joke around. I really enjoyed working with Hal. He taught me a lot about being a para-educator. May your memories of Hal help to comfort you during the coming weeks. Remember the Risen Lord and turn to Him for only the comfort He can give. Heaven gained one of the best people ever today. We shall miss you tremendously, friend. Teresa, what a glorious day when you and Hal meet again and you will. Oh, Hal? I suspect the lakes are stocked in Heaven!
