Gerald "Jerry" Lyons

Gerald “Jerry” L. Lyons, Jr., 58, passed away Tuesday, April 7, 2015 at his home in Des Moines.

Jerry was born November 13, 1956 in Des Moines, Iowa to Gerald L. Lyons, Sr. and Betty H. (Lyons) Smith. He was the rock of his family and the person they would turn to for guidance or advice. Jerry enjoyed all types of sports and loved coaching his kids’ teams and cheering on his children and grandchildren. He was a fan of all Iowa teams, but the Hawkeyes would always be #1. Jerry enjoyed the years he was involved in racing and watching NASCAR. He loved spending time with his family, traveling with his wife, doing yard work and listening to rock ‘n roll.

He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Norien; his children, Steffani L. (Wetsal) Harper, Christopher M. Lyons and Tiffani L. (Jerry) Morrill and grandchildren, Taylor, Alli, Tori, Danny, Lexi, Sayvonne, Devin, Jordayn, Jake, Baylie, Mason, Braiden and Logan. He is also survived by his sister, Julie A. (Leroy) Williams; and his mother, Betty (Richard) Smith. He was preceded in death by his father, Gerald Lyons, Sr.

Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., with funeral service beginning at 1:00 p.m., Monday, April 13, 2015 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. Interment at Laurel Hill Cemetery will follow the funeral.
