Gary Johnson, 53, passed away Monday, April 6, 2015. He was born December 24, 1961 in Des Moines, Iowa.
Gary was a dedicated employee for 22 years at Industrial Refrigeration Services. He was a Harley Davidson motorcycle enthusiast and had a passion for the outdoors. Gary loved spending time at the Lake of the Ozarks with family and friends. He attended the Indianapolis 500 for 21 consecutive years. Gary will be remembered as a loving father, grandfather, a great son, a beloved brother, and an irreplaceable friend.
He is survived by his parents, Lyle and Beverly Johnson; daughters, Jennifer Johnson (and future son-in-law, Ryan Anderson) and Samantha Johnson; granddaughter, Nevaeh Anderson; brother, Lyle (Melia) Johnson, Jr.; sisters, Vicki (Jim) Keller and Lorie Dasch; mother of his children, Judy Johnson; and a host of other family and beloved friends.
Gary was preceded in death by his paternal and maternal grandparents.
A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, April 11, 2015, at New Hope Assembly of God, 6800 Townsend Ave. in Urbandale.
Memorial Contributions may be made to Sunshine Open Bible in loving memory of Gary.

I'm sorry to hear that Gary has passed away. I always enjoyed the friendship we had when he came to my plant to work on my ammonia system, He was truly a great man. I have a poem I used at a service a few years ago. I hope it might bring some comfort and peace in your families lives. Gary is in a better place.

Sorry to hear of your loss. I never had the pleasure of meeting Gary. The only encounters I had were via the phone when he would call and ask for his older, bald, uglier brother. I am truly sorry for the loss of Gary. My memories of Gary are mostly when he was growing up and all the good times we had as families. It's difficult to believe he is gone, but to be in the presence of the Lord is a wonderful place. I love you and pray that Jesus will hold you and comfort you during this very difficult time. What can I say about this wonderful man he may have been just a brother -in-law but for me he was my brother always had a smile on on his face and made you feel like a part of his family I thankful for all the years I had with him and knowing he is up there with my dad I have another Angel watching over me, Love you Gary

Aunt Bev and Uncle Lyle and to all of our extended family....Just know that we love you and we are praying for all of you. Gary was such a special guy. My earliest memories are of us sharing our birthdays together. Mom has many pictures of Gary and I celebrating our close birthdays together. Gary was so tender hearted and always seemed so happy to see you.
