Bill Kearney, 78, passed away April 5, 2015, at Mercy Hospice in Johnston, Iowa, after a long battle with Parkinson’s disease. He was born in Des Moines, IA to Joseph and Marie Kearney on July 15, 1936.

Bill graduated from Dowling High School in 1954. He served in the United States Army and was a certified sharpshooter. He worked for Meredith Publishing and R.R. Donnelly, retiring as a pressman in 1995 after 38 years of service.

Bill was a member of All Saints Catholic Church in Des Moines. He taught square dance lessons and was a well-known Central Iowa Square Dance caller. Bill was a dedicated Chicago Cubs fan and Iowa State Fair attendee. Above all, he cherished his grandsons and never missed one of their sporting events.

Bill is survived by his son, Patrick (Peggy) Kearney; grandsons, Nathan and Drew Kearney; sister, Virginia Lydic; and a host of other family and beloved friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Sandra in 2009; and sisters, Florence Clemenson, Mary Patterson, and Kay Halterman.

Visitation will be held at All Saints Catholic Church, 650 NE 52nd Avenue in Des Moines, on Thursday, April 9, 2015, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., with a 7:30 p.m. prayer service. A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday at the church with burial to follow at Sunny Hill Cemetery in Grimes. Immediately following the burial, the family is hosting a reception at their home during the Cubs game in Bill’s honor.
