Service Details

Harold Anderson, passed into the arms of our Lord and his beloved wife on Friday, April 3, 2015 after a brief illness with pneumonia at Mill Pond Community surrounded by his family.

Harold was born in Fort Dodge, then moved to East Des Moines, around the age of 5. Harold graduated from EHS in 1936, entered the Army Air Corp in WWII serving overseas the majority of his time. He served as a Letter Carrier for the USPS until retirement in 1979. During his military service he renewed his acquaintance with Marian Johnson, and upon their discharges they married in 1946. To this union two sons were born, Richard and Gary.

After Harold retired, he took up several hobbies such as woodworking, golf and bowling. He loved traveling with his wife and family in the USA and Sweden. Harold was a very dedicated family man. He loved all his family and friends unconditionally. His most joyous moments were when we could all be together celebrating each other – playing cribbage, games, eating and lots of fun conversations.

Harold was a devout Christian attending Capitol Hill (First) Lutheran Church since he was a small child. At special occasions at the church, especially dinners, you could always find him in the kitchen on dish detail. Harold belonged to Home Lodge, American Legion, Scandinavian Society, and National Association of Letter Carriers. He was also an avid Hawkeye fan.

Those left to honor his legacy are his sons, Rick (Rhonda) Anderson and Gary (Mary) Anderson; grandchildren, David (Jennifer) Anderson, Eric Boden and Molly (John) Winquist; great-granddaughters, Milly and Lorelai Winquist; and nephew, Larry (Jan) Johnson.

Preceding him in death are his parents, August and Severina; loving wife, Marian Louise; elder sister, Anna (Ed) Johnson; brother, John Anderson; and Harold’s twin sister, Mary.
