Leota Pearl Hamlin

Leota Hamlin, 92, passed away April 2, 2015, at Mitchell Village Care Center in Mitchellville, Iowa. She was born on January 16, 1923, in Curlew, Iowa, to Daniel F. and Opal B. Bradshaw.
Leota was a homemaker until the death of her husband in 1971, and enjoyed her employment at Adventureland following the sale of the family business, Hamlin Furniture. Above all, Leota cherished her family and their time spent together.
Leota is survived by her daughter, Sharilynne Boettcher; sons, David (Edna) Hamlin, Nathan D. (Sally) Hamlin, and James (Judy) Hamlin; son-in-law, Tom Grimes; 15 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren, and 2 great great-grandchildren; and her siblings, Perry (Ruby) Bradshaw, Paul Bradshaw, Leona Audino, Pat (Ron) Sander, and Sharon Menefee. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Hamlin; daughter, Dana Grimes; son, Dan Hamlin; son-in-law, Richard Boettcher; 5 brothers and 2 sisters.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 7, 2015, at Hamilton’s Altoona Funeral Home, 105 4th Street SW, with burial to follow at Altoona Cemetery. Visitation will be held Monday evening from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

I had the priviledge in caring for your mom at Mitchell Village. What an honor! I will always remember her great sense of humor and her looking at me with those beautiful eyes when I would kiss her on her forhead and she would look up at me, alomost if to say, what are you doing, and then smile... You all should be very proud of your mom! She was a FANTASTIC lady. I will miss her alot!

She was our neighbor and our mother's best friend. When I came home from Vietnam, Leota was the first person, aside from my family, to come to the house to welcome me home. She was a very nice lady. I'm sorry for your loss.
