Velva was born September 7, 1927 in Martensdale to Olin and Bertha Slone. She departed from this life on Saturday, September 29, 2007. She married Angelo Valenti on November 29, 1947. They had a 57 year marriage.
Velva is survived by her 5 children, Dale (Sandy) of Emporia, Kansas and Tony , Rosemary Newell, Kay Newkirk and Carolyn (Doug)Valenti-Allen all of Des Moines, 10 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. Also surviving are her brother, Duane Slone of Parrish, Florida and sisters, Zatha Moen of Indianola and Zelpha Wilson of Altoona. Many nieces and nephews and cousins and her best friend since early childhood, Verna Mae Underwood of Indianola. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Angelo A. Valenti Jr.
Services will be held at 10 am Wednesday at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8pm Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Elm Grove Cemetery.

Dear Rosemary, Kay, Carolyn, Dale, and Tony:
I am so sorry to hear that your Mother Velva passed away on Saturday. My brother Angelo just told me. I will send a sympathy card soon. I remember her as being a very talented woman. Although my mother and I cannot attend. You and your families will be in our thoughts on Wednesday. I know she will be missed dearly. I hope you will be consoled knowing she is at rest. My thoughts and prayers will be with you at this time.
