Beulah was born January 24, 1918, to Frank and Stella Armbruster in Des Moines. She grew up at 2416 E. Douglas and was a teenager during the Great Depression. She said that her family never went hungry because her dad was a hunter and supplied the neighborhood with rabbits and squirrels, plus they had rows of black raspberries and a large garden. She graduated from East High School, Class of 1936, went on to Specialist Business School, and her first job was with State Finance, now Wells Fargo. She married Charles Findley on December 24, 1938, at Staves United Brethren Church in Des Moines. After living in San Francisco for three months, they returned home in their new 1939 Ford that they purchased for $750.00 so Charles could be a hired man for his father. She enjoyed farm life east of Mitchellville and working several part time jobs while being a homemaker. In 1966, she went to work for the State of Iowa as a secretary at the Girls Training School which is now the women’s prison. She retired in 1978, and she and Charles moved to the town of Mitchellville.

Beulah was an avid reader who will be remembered as a woman of independence and wit who loved history, traveling, cooking fabulous meals, playing crossword puzzles, cards, and games of all kinds. She also enjoyed needlework, quilting, cookies, singing, reciting poetry, gardening, and devoting time to family and friends. She was a member of the National Honor Society, Mitchellville Christian Church, the Farm Bureau Singers, Prairie Belles, Tops, Singles Club, Card Club, Des Moines Pioneer Club, the East High Alumni Assn., the East High Class of ’36 Luncheon Club, Senior Citizens, and Friends of the Library. She was always ready to go somewhere and enjoyed life to its fullest.

Beulah is survived by her son, Gary Findley of Gillette Grove; her daughter, Pat Underwood of Colfax; her daughter-in-law, Patty Findley of Colfax; five grandchildren, Jennifer, Scott, Clint, Brian, and Amy; and thirteen great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son, Grant Findley; and sisters, Pauline Brady and Chloris Armbruster.
