Gertrude Manson

Gertrude Manson, 94, passed away Wednesday, March 11, 2015 at Regency Care Center in Norwalk.

Born January 1, 1921, Grietje Brinkman in Ogilvie, Minnesota to Cornelius and Alberdina Brinkman, she moved to Iowa at the age of 2. Upon starting school, she was made to change her Dutch given name of Grietje to Gertrude. She had lived in the Des Moines area since 1945 and was a member of Clifton Heights Presbyterian Church and Eastern Star Chapter 89. Gertrude stayed “29”, as she always said, “age is mind over matter and if you don’t mind, it doesn’t matter.”

Gertrude is survived by her children, David (Jackie) Manson and Barbara (Steve) Gordon; grandchildren, Jonathan (Jenna) Manson and Jennifer (Dan) Beukelman; and great-grandchildren, Tori, David, Kaiden, Jada and Elaina.

She was preceded in death by her husband Raymond Manson and her four brothers.

Funeral services will be held at 12 p.m. Thursday, March 19, 2015 at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street followed by burial at the Masonic Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
