Merilda Helen Senecaut Northway

Merilda Northway, 86, passed away peacefully Tuesday, March 10, 2015. She was born May 18, 1928 to French immigrants and was the first in her family to graduate from high school, at East High in 1946. Merilda was a kind and gentle lady. Her husband Vern passed away when she was just 54. Until no longer able, she carried on his legacy of always keeping the car spotless and the lawn beautiful. Merilda was an accomplished seamstress, cook and baker. She put “her girls” first and was there for them all through their lives. She will be missed every second of everyday.
Merilda is survived by her daughter, Deb Kiefer; grandson, Todd Patterson (Errin); granddaughter, Amy Van Dyke (Matt); great-grandchildren, Sage Parker, Paxton Patterson, Addie and Avery Van Dyke; also by daughter, Paula Poland (John); granddaughter, April; and step-grandson, Chris Kiefer.
Merilda will live on in her family’s hearts forever.
A memorial gathering will be held from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m., Saturday, March 14, 2015 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines.
Memorial Contributions may be made to Trinity Center at Luther Park in loving memory of Merilda.

Deb and Paula, I am sorry to see the passing of your mother. She was blessed to have two daughters that loved her as you do, and there for every need she might have had.
