Shirley Johnson

Shirley Ann Johnson passed away Sunday, March 8, 2015, at the age of 75.

She was born in Des Moines to Carl and Goldie (Jones) Marshall. Shirley grew up in Des Moines, attending Longfellow, Amos Hiatt and East High Schools. She had also lived in Shenandoah, Iowa.

In July of 1956, she married James “Johnny” Johnson at the Calvary Open Bible Church. She enjoyed being a homemaker as well as a clerk in food service for the Des Moines Public Schools for over 30 years. Shirley was a member of Grace Baptist Church and Airport Baptist Church. She loved vacationing and traveling. Shirley will be remembered as a very happy person who loved her family, friends and her church.

Shirley is survived by her husband, Johnny; sons, Rick and Randy Johnson; daughter, Debra (Bob) Grimm and Penny Harker; niece, Becky Sienkiewicz; brother, Charles Marshall; her pride and joy, grandsons, Jacob Harker, Bradley, Nick, Noah and Alec Johnson; daughter-in-law, Rhonda Johnson; and a host of nephews, nieces, extended family and friends. She will be dearly missed by all.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Grover Hankins.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 12, 2015 at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street followed by burial at Glendale Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Grace Baptist Church, 112 County Line Road.
