David Verle Matthias, Sr., 68, was born July 19, 1946 in Fairfield, Iowa and passed away Tuesday, February 17, 2015 at the Baxter Healthcare Center.

David enjoyed gambling at Meskwaki Casino, fishing, traveling, and gathering with loved ones at family reunions.

David is survived by his wife, Sandy Matthias; children, David Matthias, Jr., Margaret Matthias, Danny (Amy) Matthias, Kristina (Jon) Kelce, Rick Matthias, Bryce Matthias and Koree Matthias; 15 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; siblings, Judy (Floyd) Osborn, Diane (Franny) Archer and Mary (Dennis) Powers; numerous nieces and nephews; other loving relatives and many special friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his great-grandson, Mason Englekes.

The family will greet friends from 10-12 p.m. Friday, February 27, 2015 at Adventure Life Church, 1700 8th St. SW in Altoona with funeral services to begin at 12 p.m. Cremation will follow the funeral.
