Robert D. Wilson

Robert D. Wilson, 70, passed away Wednesday, February 11, 2015. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, February 16, 2015 at Hamilton’s Southtown, 5400 SW 9th St, Des Moines.

Robert was born June 14, 1944 in Ottumwa, Iowa. He attended many different schools growing up as his father served in the Army Airforce. He graduated from Albia, Iowa in 1962 and in 1963, he married Helene and they started their family. Robert worked for Firestone for 40 years and was an avid history buff. He was very proud of the fact that all three of his children and his son-in-law served in the military.

He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and liked playing board games with his family. He loved shooting pool his entire life, but the happiest times for Robert were when he was in the middle of the lake with a fishing pole in his hand.

Robert is survived by his wife of 51 years, Helene; children, Robert Wilson Jr., Trisha (Mo) Turnis, and Vince (Deb) Wilson; grandchildren, Jacob and Nicole Wilson, Rebecca Turnis, and Jon Shelabarger; dog, Candy; and many extended family members. He was preceded in death by his parents, Evelyna and Frank Wilson.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to St. Vincent de Paul at St. Anthony Catholic Church or to the Iowa D.N.R.
