Eugene VerSteegh, 62, died Tuesday, September 25, 2007 at Iowa Taylor House Hospice. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, September 28, 2007 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon St. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Gene was born March 5, 1945 to Murray and Neola VerSteegh in Des Moines. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. Gene retired from the U.S. Postal Service in 2000 after 35 years of service. He was a Western author who had two of his books published. Gene was a member of Lincoln Heights Lutheran Church and the American Postal Workers Union. He enjoyed boating, golfing and was an avid Cubs, Hawkeye and Green Bay Packer fan.
Gene is survived by his wife, Barbara; sons, Jeff (Kathy) and Larry VerSteegh; mother, Neola; sister, Carol (Nile) Hethershaw; brother, Rick (Brenda) Baccus; and seven grandchildren, Sean, Ashley, Alyssa, Aryn, Jacob, Jessica and Casey.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Iowa Taylor House Hospice or Lincoln Heights Lutheran Church.
