Derrold Melvin Anderson was born October 8, 1925 in Des Moines, Iowa, the son of William and Rose (Mofle) Anderson. Derrold grew up in Des Moines and graduated from East High School in 1944 where he qualified for all-state football. He married Dena Osborn on August 20, 1949. Derrold served in the U.S. Marines for four years in Japan. He worked for Bruce Motor Freight for 42 years as a truck driver. Derrold and his wife Dena attended Grandview Park Church and Fellowship Baptist Church for 47 years.

Derrold passed away Monday, February 9, 2015 at his home at the age of 89. Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, February 12, 2015 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, February 13, also at Hamilton’s, with burial at Avon Cemetery.

He is survived by his sister-in-law, Joan Bales; brother-in-law, Calvin (Dixie) Osborn; daughter-in-law, Karen Berg; sister-in-law, Helen Osborn; and sister-in-law, Vicki Osborn. He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Dena and his son, Timothy Anderson.
