Richard M. "Dick" Lord, 78, of West Des Moines, died peacefully on February 8, 2015, surrounded by his loving family. Visitation will be held at Valley Evangelical Free Church on Thursday, February 12 from 5:30 - 7:30 pm. Funeral services will be held at Valley Church on Friday, February 13 at 10:00 am.

Dick was born in Rixford, PA on October 31, 1936. He graduated from Otto Eldred High School, Duke Center, PA in 1955, where he played football and was a member of the drum corps. After graduation, he joined the Marine Corps where he was a jet mechanic until March, 1962. On February 7, 1960, Dick married the love of his life, Doyce, with whom he had just celebrated his 55th wedding anniversary. They met on a blind date in Memphis, TN, and the rest was a fairytale. After the Marine Corps, Dick worked in the fertilizer industry for Grace Chemical, Agway, and CF Industries. Dick traveled with his family all over the United States and Canada, and served on mission trips to Chicago and Venezuela. When he retired from CF Industries in 1999, Dick and his wife, Doyce, fulfilled their dream of travelling many places by motor home, and then settled down in West Des Moines, IA to be near family. There, Dick made many friends, and served as Treasurer of their Homeowners Association.

Dick was a man of God. He spent his time with family, and enjoyed watching his favorite church services, football, basketball, and westerns on TV. He also enjoyed working on his computers and playing with his furry companion, Shadow.

Dick will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Doyce; his son, Keith (Becky) of Perry, IA; his grandchildren, Ashley (Kyle Lawler), Alex, Bryce, Devon, and Josiah; his great-grandchildren, Liam and Azen; his brother, Bob Lord; many nieces, nephews, and other family; and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde and Aileen Lord; his daughter, Tammy Aileen Barron; his son, Christopher Lord; his brother, Delbert Lord; and his sister, Leatha Carrol.
