Dick Huss, 81, passed away February 8, 2015, at Mercy Hospice in Johnston from complications of long term illnesses. He was born to Albert and Nellie Huss in Des Moines, Iowa on May 18, 1933.

Dick graduated from Dowling Catholic High School and served in the United States Navy during the Korean War. Dick was a longtime member of All Saints Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, and the Dowling Club. He was a proud member of Alcoholics Anonymous for 37 years.

Dick began his career at Look Magazine where he met his loving wife of 50 years. Following his retirement from Armstrong-Pirelli, he worked for AA as the Central Office Manager for many years.

Dick is survived by his children, Maureen (Dan) Shannon, Diane (John) Bellizzi, Shelley (Scott) Ririe, Richard Huss Jr., and Kirk (Anna) Huss; grandchildren, Cory, Tyler, Colleen Shannon, Angela Bellizzi (Rick) Ponulak, Andy, Mike, Elise, and James Ririe, Ben and Annie Huss; 3 step grandchildren and 8 step great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Joyce (Denis) Tigges and Marge Sabus; brother-in-law, Bill (Betty) Sabus; as well as a host of other family and beloved friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Marian; 3 brothers and 2 sisters.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m., with a 7:30 p.m. prayer service on Thursday, February 12, 2015, at All Saints Catholic Church, 650 NE 52nd Avenue in Des Moines. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday morning at 10:00 a.m. at the church, with burial to follow at Glendale Cemetery.

In loving memory of Dick, memorial contributions may be directed to Martina Place Assisted Living, Dowling Catholic High School, or Mercy Hospice in Johnston.

The family would like to thank Dick’s AA family who helped support him with transportation, conversation, and fellowship throughout the years. They would also like to thank the caring staff at Martina Place Assisted Living and Mercy Hospice in Johnston for their kindness and compassion.
