Opal Laffoon, 81, passed away Saturday, February 7, 2015 at Manor Care in West Des Moines, Iowa.
Opal was born on June 29, 1933 in Georgetown, Iowa to Clarence and Viola Knouse. She attended Our Lady’s Immaculate Heart Catholic Church in Ankeny. Opal was a foodie. She loved animals and Charley Pride music. Opal was a collector of all things pretty and a renowned purse-aholic.
Opal is survived by her daughters, Marta Procyk and Tammy Philipp; sons, Richard Laffoon and Roger Laffoon; sister, Susie Gale; grandchildren, Carissa Procyk, Michael Procyk, Richard Laffoon, Matthew Laffoon and Elijah Laffoon; many beloved great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, James F. Laffoon; and son, Steven M. Mascaro.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, February 12, 2015 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street followed by burial at Glendale Cemetery. Visitation will be held two hours prior to the service Thursday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be directed to Animal Lifeline of Iowa in honor of Hope.

Tammy and Marta, I feel like I knew Opal from all the stories I heard from Tammy although I only met her and Hope once, she was very sweet. But of course she was, she loved dachshunds! My thoughts and prayers are with you as you grieve and learn to go on without her.
