Alta Mae Johnson

Alta Mae Johnson, 72, passed away Wednesday, February 4, 2015. She was born August 29, 1942 in Ottumwa, Iowa to Oscar and Erna Mae (Green) Johnson. Alta was a people person. She loved children and talking on the phone with her family and friends. She enjoyed playing bingo and slot machines and was a member of Mt. Olive Church.

Alta is survived by her sons, John (Terri) Tolson and Dean (Dawn) Kelly; siblings, Katherine (Jesse) Burrage, Helen Johnson, Lorraine Johnson, Alfreda Buckner, Vera Johnson, Oscar Johnson Jr., Earl Fleetwood, and Julie Reben; grandchildren, Debin, Demison, Richmond, Austin, Alexis, Mariah, Skyler, Rhaneisha, Shaliyah, Sierra, Quinn, Caitlyn, Nautica, Catheryn, Justin, and Dean Jr.; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and many special friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John Tolson; daughters, Personna Tolson and Jeanetha Bailey; parents, Oscar and Erna Mae; and her siblings, Eunice Ridley and Ernest Johnson.

Services will be held on Saturday, February 14, 2015 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. Family will begin greeting guests at 12:30 p.m. with funeral service to start at 2:30 p.m.
