Doris C. Garland, 92, passed away Tuesday, February 3, 2015 at Wesley Acres.
Doris was born February 18, 1922 in Shannon City, Iowa to James and Hattie Werner. She retired from Principal Financial Group in 1997. Doris enjoyed all types of needlework and was a “collector” of many things. She also enjoyed socializing with her neighbors and her many friends from Fort Des Moines United Methodist Church of which she was a member.
Doris is survived by her children, Dick (Barb) Garland, Dwight (Tracey) Garland and Teri Stoermer; 15 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; sister, Carol (Dean) Bryan; and a host of extended family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Donella; brothers, Daryl and Elton Werner; and her husband of 69 years, Richard.
The family will greet friends Friday, February 6, 2015 from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. with the funeral service following at 11 a.m. at Fort Des Moines United Methodist Church, 6205 SW 9th Street.

I knew Doris at Principal as we both retired from long careers there. I got to know her when she worked part-time after she retired at the employee company store which I was asked to manage. Everyone who came in enjoyed visiting with Doris. She had a good long life. Unfortunately I have another commitment and am unable to attend the funeral. My condolences to the family.
