Gene Devore Lewis

Gene Devore Lewis, 87, passed away Wednesday, January 28, 2015, at the Iowa Jewish Senior Living Center in Des Moines. He was born June 8, 1927, to Bessie and Floyd Lewis in Murray, Iowa.
Gene served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He was a member of the Teamsters and enjoyed antique tractors, searching for old steam locomotives, and riding motorcycles.
Gene is survived by his sons, Bob (Jeri) Lewis, Charlie (Debbie) Lewis, and Ken Lewis; grandchildren, Lisa (Jerry) Capehart, April (David) Leffler, David (Emily) Lewis, Mackenzie Lewis, and Nick Lewis; great-grandchildren, Thomas, Mason, and Violet; as well as a host of other family and beloved friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Frances; brother, Vern Lewis; and sister, Evelyn Towne.
Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 31, 2015, at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue in Des Moines, with burial to follow at Chariton Cemetery. Visitation will be held Friday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or the Iowa Jewish Senior Living Center in loving memory of Gene.

I am so sorry to see that Gene is gone, such a long time for you all to watch him decline, he is at peace now. I always loved Gene and Frances- you "boys" also ! (and Jeri and Debby of course) you always made me feel so welcome at your family get to- gethers. My thoughts and prayers are with you at this difficult time
